I’m Just a Mom…Now Pass the Bon Bons Please!

I often hear “you’re JUST A MOM, why are you so stressed?”.  I guess in my former life, I would tend to agree with this thinking, but not today!

#1 – What the heck is a bon bon?  It’s chocolate or something right?  I don’t even like chocolate!  UGH!

#2 – “Just a mom” does just a little more than sit around eating said bon bons!

Here is my day in a nut shell!

Wake up at 6:45 am to the most wonderful little man in the world!  He needs a diaper change, he needs a bottle (and yes, this “just a mom” realizes he is too old for these things) but I indulge him, make a pot of coffee, and log on!

123 emails!  Yes, this should be fun!

I read and review, I answer all that are required, and I pour my cup of coffee.

Then the Bug awakes!  Time for breakfast!  Then some laundry, some refereeing, some learning, nurturing, bathing, tooth brushing, and play time!

Back to the computer.  Oh crap, I have a campaign to run!  25 Bloggers and I’m running this show!  Meanwhile, I have a cell phone to review, and some Chicken Mini’s to figure out what I’m going to do with!

3 conference calls later, I’m back at this thing!  All the while nurturing, protecting, and loving my babies!

What?  Another 73 emails to answer?  OK, I’ve got this!

One more conference call!  It’s all good!  Have you seen this mess?  Vacuum, 2 loads of laundry, lunch and a shower!  It’s all under control!

Put on some make up, throw up my hair, clean up more toys, and really?  Another 56 emails?  Alrighty then!

Call from the oldest, and I talk her out of (gosh I hope so) quitting her big girl job for another part time gig.  Long conversation and we won’t go into that here!

B gets home (from his just a job), takes a run, and it’s time for me to head to Walmart for our needed supplies.  On the way, call #2 and ask about graduation announcements.  We must get these ordered but she has no details.  I coach yet again and hopefully, we will get this done in the morning!

Get home, cook dinner, feed the family and clean up the mess (again)!

A little play time, then put everyone to bed and back on the computer to field the 87 emails (OMG this number keeps growing).  I got this!

Then back to the kitchen.  Cook B’s breakfast, pack his lunch, clean up another mess!  Fold more clothes, clean up the babies’ toys and sit back down at the computer (thank goodness it’s late so there are only 22 emails to check)

Hence is the life of “just a mom”.  And it all starts all over again in the morning!  I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world, but I’ve “worked” outside the home before and I promise you, I have never worked this hard before!

So please pass the bon bons (whatever they are) and before you discount a “just a mom” again, remember that she might just be working just a little bit harder than you, for a lot less money, and she shouldn’t be dismissed like that!

I’m “just a mom” and I’m proud and I’m honored.  But seriously, drop the bon bon talk because this “just a mom” has had just about enough of that talk!.

So….what did YOU do today on your “just a job”?

I agree this is the hardest job I have ever had but wouldn’t change it for ANYTHING : )

  2. I am a single mom, full-time student, work part-time and am a full time blogger. The hardest part is being ‘just a mom.’ You don’t get sick leave, a 15 minute break, and you can’t quit!
People who aren’t moms will never know how hard and yet rewarding it is!

  3. Anyone who would ever use the phrase “just a Mom” is obviously not one. I work part-time from home and am a Mom, and let me tell you, my “real” job is so much easier than my much more important job as a Mom!

OMG, I love this so much. Soooo true! I am “just a Mom too” and let me tell you….I had a fast-paced stressful corporate job BK (before kid) and that was nothing compared to all the things I do now!
