Secret’s In the Sauce

Seriously. If you love Taco Bell sauces, you’ll love this. And the best part is…it’s not even hideously bad for you. The whole bowl contains 0 fat, 4g of carbs, 2g of sugar, and only 260g of sodium…the whole bowl! And surely, you won’t eat the whole bowl, right?
We try to keep it healthy around here, so I Google recipes often and make my own variations of them. Sometimes they are a hit…sometimes, not so much. My taco sauce recipe was a hit for sure and we use it every time we have taco night now.
Secret’s in the sauce! The secret is always in the sauce, but this one is not so secret. Try this, you’ll love it! So simple and easy.
What you’ll need:
  • 15 oz can of tomato sauce
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 tspn chili powder
  • 3 tspn cumin
  • 3 tspn onion powder
  • 2 tspn white vinegar
  • 2 tsnn garlic powder
  • 1 tspn paprika
  • 1/2 tspn sugar
  • 1/2 tspn cayenne

Add all ingredients and stir!

That’s it. No mess, no cooking, no fuss! We use this to season our taco meat (ground turkey). Use it on your taco salads. I use it for burritos and as a substitute for high sodium enchilada sauce. Substitute as you like. You get the point. This stuff is GOOD! And it’s a much healthier alternative.
Try it, share it, like it, and let me know what you think! Seriously, my family thinks it’s better than Taco Bell! I feel like I’ve arrived. Secret’s in the sauce!
Sparkle on and enjoy!

  1. I just might have to make this for Michael.

  2. Because it takes less than 5 minutes and it’s homemade goodness, of course you should!

  3. I am making tacos for dinner and think I am in need of a new post, will link back to your recipe! I buy a lot of Enchilada sauce and it can be expensive because hubby likes everything really wet!

  4. Well, as you can imagine, this recipe costs roughly 50 cents to make. Score! Let me know how it turns out.
