Normally I don’t like birds. I’m actually kind of afraid of them. Remember Alfred Hitchcock’s movie The Birds? Yea, I saw that as a young child and it scared the bejezuz out of me and to this day the sight of flocks of birds, or even one bird because birds do tend to flock, makes my skin crawl. I have a lot of unusual phobias, including fish and foods with pumpkin in them, but we’ll go into that at a later date.
Today I’d just like to explain that I’ve resolved to overcome some of my fears. I’m starting with the birds. These are island birds and they have no desire to peck me to death. In fact, they scurry and fly away as you approach them. This bird is beautiful and its backdrop is amazing.
I’m not sure that I’ll ever feel comfortable around a flock of crows, be able to ride on the interstate without breaking into constant cold sweats, wade through a pond without fearing that a fish will bite my toe off (honestly, I have no clue where that one even comes from), be able to even LOOK at a photo of a high place without feeling like I have to puke, and…oh forget it, you get the point. I have a lot of work to do here.But I was comfortable with island birds sharing the beach with me. I’m making progress and you have to start somewhere.
