Keep An Open Mind…Or Defriend Me!

“Always keep your mind as bright and clear as the vast sky, the great ocean, and the highest peak, empty of all thoughts. Always keep your body filled with light and heat. Fill yourself with the power of wisdom and enlightenment.” ~Morihei Ueshiba

Today, my family and I spent some time together at the pool. I was unplugged and we just “talked” to people. We have a new friend, Barry, that we talk to every time we’re at the pool and he cracks. me. up. But he’s gay. And people judge him. Their minds aren’t open to the fun person that he is, and that bothers me.

Then B and I headed out to get tattoos later in the evening. I listened to, and watched, people judging other people. That bothered me.

We came home and I listened to my step son talk about the people back in Georgia. I thought about the conversation and realized that he thinks this judgmental life is “normal”, and so do my girls. And this bothered me the most.

Why do people judge others? Are they so perfect that they can cast stones? I’m not. I’m sure you aren’t either. As a matter of fact, none of us are. I don’t care if you’re rich, poor, a Christian, a non-believer, have tattoos or piercings. I don’t care if you’re thin or heavy. I really don’t care if you buy all of your clothes at Walmart or Abercrombie.

Are you nice to other people? Are you accepting of people that aren’t like you? If you are, I like you a lot. If you aren’t, defriend me on Facebook now and let’s pretend we never met. No, I’m serious…go do it now because we have nothing in common.

Keep an open mind and never think that you’re better, or worse, than your neighbor. Those who judge are often damning themselves by doing the exact opposite of what they profess and “believe”.

I guess, on my high horse, I think I don’t judge others, but I do. Of course those I judge are judgmental and I judge them based on their judgement of others. I guess I get a pass for that, right?

Somehow I knew you, of all people, would “get” this post.
