I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.
~
Robert A. Heinlein
I used to hate birds. They scared me actually (thank you for those childhood nightmares Alfred Hitchcock). But since we moved to the island, I have a new found love for these magnificent creatures. They are free. They don’t worry. They just live. They fly and they hunt, and they make their own decisions, devoid of constant thought.

I should do this more. I should think less and live more. I shouldn’t care so much about how many people read this as I do about why I write it. I should just DO more, without thought. I should just LIVE more, without worry.

Why do I care so much about what others think? Why don’t I just live in the here and now without worry? We only live once and it’s my life. I shouldn’t worry so much. I should be free, like those birds. I should be free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. It’s my life and I’m ready to fly like the birds. I need to be free from worry.

It’s time to soar. It’s my turn. This is my life and I’m going to live it. I’ll never stop caring about or for others, but it’s time I start caring about myself too.
