Office Space #MeltsBestFeelings #shop

Let me just put this out there, I hate winter. HATE. Cold weather makes me cringe, shiver, and I’m just plain lazy during this time of year. I let things go, and this winter, I’ve let my office go. I work from home. I spend a LOT of time in my office. It’s rather depressing really. I have the rest of the house in order since the move, but not my office. I needed inspiration to motivate me to do something about it. I need to be organized in order to work efficiently. So where did I find this inspiration? My scent-spiration came from the scents of spring and summer (ahhh…the warm months). It’s amazing how just the smell of spring can light a fire under you to just do more and put a bounce in your step like only warm weather truly can. Luckily, I can bring the scents of warm weather indoors with the help of Glade® Wax Warmers and Wax Melts.

I’m about to shame myself (and my OCD brothers and sisters) by showing you this, but here goes. THIS was my office just a few days ago.

Office Before #MeltsBestFeelings #shop

*SHUDDER*

And THIS was my desktop.

Desk Top Before #MeltsBestFeelings #shop I suppose I’ve seen worse and some might say this isn’t really so bad. But those people don’t know me. THIS is utter chaos and it had to change! HAD to. I can’t work like this. I look around, I cringe, and I try to work through the chaos. Not cool, but I wasn’t motivated.

But this weekend, while grocery shopping at my favorite grocery store, HEB, I found the fire that lit my butt into action. My inspiration was right in front of my eyes and I’d been missing it all along. I have wax warmers throughout the house because I love the smell, but not in my office. What was I thinking? Obviously I wasn’t!

In Store #MeltsBestFeelings #shop Until I saw this. I was looking for a spray and carpet freshener and that’s when it hit me. I needed to bring spring into my office. But where were the Glade® Wax Warmers and Wax Melts? Not where I expected but I did find them on a special display in the soda aisle so be sure to look around the store if you can’t find them yourself. They now have all of the scents of spring available and they are all divine and scent-spirational. Their warmer is the most beautiful hue of blue that goes perfectly with my decor and the melts are now available in Live Loud, Lift Off, Creamy Custard, Red Honeysuckle Nectar, Sunny Days, and Lavender & Vanilla. Something for everyone for sure. I picked up Live Loud (because, well…that’s how I live) and Lift Off and headed home with a plan!

Scent-spiration from Glade #MeltsBestFeelings #shop I stopped by an office supply store on my way home and picked up a black (not my color choice) organizer and some other supplies I needed. I plugged in my new Glade® Wax Melt Warmer and dropped in two Lift Off Wax Melts. The floral smells immediately started flowing through my office and I had an idea. What do you do when you don’t like the color of a supply you just brought home?

DIY Organizer #MeltsBestFeelings #shop Spray paint of course! Y’all spray paint was invented for people like me. I’m not very crafty but ANYONE can spray paint and the right color, just like the right scent, can change the mood of any room, and any person. Spray, dry, organize!

Desk Top After #MeltsBestFeelings #shop It’s really that easy. I literally revamped and organized my office space in less than an hour (and believe me, I didn’t show you everything so it wasn’t an easy task) inspired only by beautiful scents of spring from Glade® and an uplifting color.

After #MeltsBestFeelings #shop It’s like a totally new room, that smells amazing, and I’ve been so much more productive today. Clean spaces are happy spaces. For real!

Scentspiration for happy spaces #MeltsBestFeelings #shop And ironically, B must have sensed that I’d been a little blue about the winter because he brought even more color and fragrance into our home, and my office, with 18 gorgeous pink roses. Just because. Yes, it might still be cold outside but spring is in the air. It is in here anyway. And I LOVE it!

Setting the Mood #MeltsBestFeelings #shop Living on an island is a beautiful thing. Even during this dreary yet brief cold spell we have every year, I know that spring is just around the corner. And thankfully, with a little help from Glade®, I was reminded of this fact and my office thanks us both very much!

I have the Lift Off scent in my office and Live Loud is beautifying my living room with its fresh floral scent. Seriously, I wish you could smell it in here. Y’all, it’s AH-MAZING! Have you tried the Glade® Wax Warmers yet with Glade® Wax Melts? They really are WAY more affordable than the big brands you may be using and I love the convenience of picking them up when I’m out shopping. If you’ve tried them, what’s your favorite scent-spiration? If not, what are you waiting for? If you hurry, you can receive a Catalina coupon to save $2.50 on any Glade® purchase of $7 or more during January and February!

Bento Boxes, Finials, Hang Outs, and 6" Ribbon Curls…OH MY! A Day in the Life of a WAHM.

It’s official. I’m a WAHM (work at home mom for those that don’t get the acronym). AND I’m officially a mommy blogger although I’ve tried to stay away from that niche. Tonight…I decided there was no denying it. The proof was in my life, my conversations, my actions…my everything. If you’re one of “me”, you’ll get this and feel my pain. If not, you might be amused anyway.

I work from home. I work hard and I work a lot of hours. Today, I reviewed posts by others. I posted to a magazine. I prepared family meals…fixed breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. I cleaned. I kind of, sort of, played with my kids (they were not on their best behavior so that is not entirely my fault). I supported my fellow bloggers. I ordered bottles for my soon to be grandbaby. I posted opportunities for other bloggers. And I realized that this online world I live in has finally taken over. I said Bento Box. Out loud. To my husband. And he tilted his head like a confused dog.
Not the typical “pretty” Bento Box, but still…

This realization came at the end of a long day. I was cleaning up the kitchen and wanted to fix his lunch.

“Where are the bento boxes baby?”
“The what?” *deer in the headlight look*
“The bento boxes? The Tupperware with compartments. Where are they?”
“Oh…one is in the dishwasher and the other is with Steve. But what did you call them?”

I called them Bento boxes. Yes, I did. And I found the one in the dishwasher and filled it. Then I made Bug’s lunch. And I thought back on my day, my week, my life. I’ve become that mom. I work from home, it was bound to happen.
Yes, those are pipe fittings. I’ll show you when these are done.

Earlier in the week, as I was redecorating my home as I’ve already shared with you, my curtains were on the way. I had B make me stainless steel curtain rods at work. They needed “end caps”. I’m not overly crafty so I asked my crafty friends on Facebook. How do I make them? I want them beachy. I used the words “end cap thingies for curtain rods”. I was linked to countless “finials” by my good friend Amy from As the Bunny Hops. I had to ask. And then I Googled. A finial? What the heck?

Now less than a week later, what am I working on? A finial. 10 of them in fact for my homemade curtain rods. I’ve consumed hours on finials…and I didn’t even know what they were a week ago. Yes, this whole blogging world is taking over.
6 Inch Ribbon Curls…SIX INCHES!!

Things are getting too crafty up in here for this non-crafty (once very business-oriented) momma. The kids wanted to hang stockings. They wanted to decorate for Christmas. I was busy. I stopped what I was doing to make 6 inch ribbon curls…SIX INCHES…to hang the stockings from the handrail in the stair well. So many questions come to mind here. Who has ribbon just sitting in a box somewhere that is suitable for 6″ ribbon curls? Who knows how to make 6″ ribbon curls? Why would anyone make this a priority? And yea, I did all of the above. They aren’t perfect ribbon curls, but the babies are impressed.

And let’s get on to the BIG thing here. A few years back you couldn’t find me in my own bathroom without makeup. Two showers a day were mandatory. Dressed to the 9’s? You bet ya…at least in public. No one…and I mean NO ONE…not even my family…saw me at anything less than my best. Would I consider a business meeting in a ponytail, no makeup, and sweatpants? Absolutely not. But these days? Things have changed. I’m super busy and it’s not uncommon to get a G-chat asking if I have a second for a hang out (for those of you that don’t know, that’s a video conference call). I used to stress about them. Now I don’t even bother to check if my ponytail is on straight. It doesn’t seem to matter. They just want to know what I have to say. They don’t care about my face, my hair, my clothes. Just my words.

That last part got me to thinking. I really love my life, and my job. Bento boxes are totally cool. I learned a new word (and I’m making my own finials because of that), my babies have their stockings hung with care, AND no one but me really gives a crap what I look like on video.

Life is good people. Bento boxes, finials, 6″ ribbon curls, hang outs and all. You might not believe it, but I’m pretty much a work horse (from home) and I’m pretty proud and impressed by what I do. Discount the WAHM all you want. We can take it. We’re tough like that. But know that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover…even if you’re on a Google Hang Out with no makeup.

Repurposed Light Bulbs: Christmas Tree Ornament Tutorial

Shocker Alert: I crafted this week. I used to craft all of the time but I kind of just quit. You see, crafting takes imagination and skill (I have that), but crafting is much more than that. You have to have time (this is not a luxury I have) and patience (I stepped out of the line when they were handing that out because it was just taking.too.long). But I’ve missed it because it’s relaxing and rewarding so I stepped back on the craft wagon for the holidays thanks to a bright idea I had while working on a giving mission. And the result was fabulous (in my head…OK I think this is really cute). Without further ado, my latest crafting project: Sparkly Christmas Tree Ornaments made from repurposed light bulbs.
Eco-friendly, easy (although a little time-consuming), and most importantly…sparkly! Want to make one or 12 of your own? I’m here to tell you how! You probably already have the supplies around your house so gather them and let’s get started. What you’ll need:
  • A blown light bulb (hey…no need to throw anything away)
  • Elmer’s School Glue Mixture: 2 parts glue, one part water
  • Small Paint Brush
  • Glitter
  • Vise Grips (shush, we’re rednecks, you can use something else but this worked great)
  • Craft Wire
  • Ribbon
  • Embellishment
  • Ornament Hook
  • Elmer’s Glue Spots

Step 1: Put thebase of the bulb in a vise grip for easeof handling and so you have aplace to let it dry through the process.

Step 2: Paint on the glue mixture.

Step 3: Get ready to get your glitter on. I did this over the sink so I could wash the overspill down. Note: I also think it’s important that the glitter you use matches your fingernails, but that’s probably just me.
Step 4: Sprinkle the glitter until the bulb is covered while the glue mixture is still wet.
Step 5: Let it dry then apply another layer of the glue mixture and another layer of glitter.
Step 6: Lather, rinse, repeat. Yes this is where that patience (that I don’t have) came in. I had to put one layer of glue mixture then glitter, then another layer of glue mixture and glitter, then top it off with one more layer of glue mixture to hold the glitter to the bulb and avoid all of that unwanted fall off in to the carpet. That’s a lot of dry time.
Step 7: I wrapped craft wire around the neck of the bulb, tied it off, and formed a loop at the top so I’d have some way to add the hook for hanging. And it was ready for ribbon.
Step 8: Apply the glue mixture to the neck of the bulb, over the wire, and wrap ribbon around 3 to 4 times. Glue down the end of the ribbon so it doesn’t fray.
Final Step: Get out your Elmer’s Glue Spots and your favorite embellishment. Apply the glue spot to the center of the ribbon, apply the flower, attach the hook to your wire loop, and you’re ready to decorate the tree.
It looks very vintage, it’s eco-friendly and inexpensive, and oh-so-very sparkly!
