If you’ve been following along at all this month, you are highly aware that I am a) a last minute holiday shopper, b) a coffee addict, and c) a lover of all things from the movie Elf. That’s incredibly random, I know, but let me explain how I used all three of them as inspiration this week.
On Wednesday evening I was feeling incredibly accomplished. I thought I was finished with my Christmas shopping. Unfortunately, I was not as I had moronically forgotten to buy anything for Bug’s Kindergarten teacher. The worst mother of the year award was imminent.
Thursday morning, I knew I had to redeem myself so Bubby and I headed to Walmart to pick up a gift card. As soon as we walked in the door, I realized how lame that was. A gift card? I was trying to redeem myself in my daughter’s eyes for goodness sakes. I’d have to be more clever than that.
And that’s when I saw this which was the beginning of my inspiration for my last minute gifting idea. Right in the middle of the Bakery Department, Starbucks was calling my name and I answered the call.
Do you see that sign? It says that if I participate in this delicious pairings experience, I will achieve pure perfection (OK, it doesn’t say that exactly but that’s how I’m interpreting it for my own use here). Everyone loves Starbucks and who wouldn’t enjoy receiving a perfect pairing like this for Christmas? I’m particularly fond of Starbucks Holiday Blend with its sweet, spicy, herbal flavor and I know it pairs perfectly with ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg to name a few flavors. And just as luck would have it, right across from this display I was able to find some fresh Bakery at Walmart Gourmet Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing. I picked up 2 bags of coffee and 2 boxes of the cinnamon rolls, one for home and one for gifting. We scurried around the rest of the store for other supplies and headed for home to get Bug and to put our gift basket together.
My crafting inspiration came from two sources (and this is where the rest of that randomness comes in). The first source was this amazing holiday bow making tutorial I read earlier in the week that really made beautiful bow making look easy. And the second source was my love of Elf. Watch this 8 second video and you’ll see why, plus you’re welcome for the giggle.
With my 3 inspirational sources aligned, I began the task at hand. I loaded the reusable basket with Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and the Gourmet Cinnamon Rolls for a delicious pairing. I included a mug for hot coffee and a cup for cold coffee, along with a sweet little bangle bracelet. Then, to make it pretty, I made my sparkly homemade bow and quite a few 6 inch ribbon curls. Bug was impressed and that makes my heart happy. Redemption!
This morning Bubby and I dropped Bug and her gift basket for her teacher off at school and headed home for our own little party.
Bubby enjoyed his cinnamon roll and juice for breakfast and he felt like a rock star. “Cake for breakfast Mommy? This is the best day EVER!”.
And I indulged a little, which I don’t do often. I wanted to see for myself how well these two items actually paired together. I brewed my beloved Starbucks Holiday blend with its sweet and spicy goodness (for the record, this is one of the few coffees that I will drink black if I have no creamer) and then I tasted the cinnamon roll, then the coffee, then the cinnamon roll, and well you get where this is going. It actually is a delicious pairing and although I’m not a sweet eater, I enjoyed this rare treat. It truly was a good day!

That is some mighty fine bow making, my friend!
I love this, you Elf-lovin’. coffee-drinkin’, bow-makin’, fantastic gift-giver, you!
LOL…what’s your favorite color?
I learned this skill somewhere. I can’t remember. Some obscure site I found. Oh well…maybe you learned something.
Purple. Fo’ sho’. My purse, iPod, phone cover… everything’s purple. I even used to own a purple car back in the day. Loooooooooove me some purple.
What’s yours? And why are we playing the color game? LOL
I am such a bad mommy because Benjamin’s Christmas party was yesterday and I didn’t have a gift. Maybe I’ll take this inspiration and bring it to her on Monday…
Shush…you are NOT a bad mommy. You’re an awesome mommy! But seriously this was super easy as long as you can master those 6 inch ribbon curls. SIX.INCHES!
Why pink of course! And we’re playing this because I’m a dork with an obsession for that movie. I’m certain people get tired of me quoting it, but I’m not concerned.
Ahh, I see. I love pink, too. But purple’s my favoritest.
