By Christy Leave a Comment

Just for the record, I should tell you that I received the following Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack with bonus features to facilitate this family movie night from Click Communications and their client. As always, all photos, ideas, and opinions are entirely my own.
Despicable Me 2 Blu Ray and DVD Combo Pack
Are you still looking for holiday gift ideas like me? Put the minions under your tree this Christmas because Despicable Me 2 is now available in stores on Blu-ray and DVD. This Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack will not only make your little ones (and you) laugh out loud for real for years to come, but it’s packed with all kinds of bonus features as well like 3 new mini movies, deleted scenes, and much more!
If you haven’t seen this movie yet, or the original, you are truly missing out and might not want to wait until Christmas to open this gift. The kids, B, and I just can’t watch it enough and WE, the family that lives under a rock, even went to see this one in the theater when it was released. Last night, we decided to have our weekly dinner and a movie, minion-style.

But since I’m so incredibly busy these days working and planning for the holidays, I didn’t go all out like I usually try to do. I kept it simple and you know what? The babies still loved it!

Simply serve “Minion Nuggets” (corn dog or chicken nuggets work) along with a side of fresh fruit and dipping sauce. If you’re feeling really creative, and have more time on your hands than I do, you can decorate the nuggets as minions with condiments. We’ll definitely do that one night but the babies loved these just the same.

And for dessert? BA-NA-NAAAAAA Splits of course. You know, because all little minions love bananas and who doesn’t like ice cream? A super simple dessert fixed in minutes that fits the theme and your kids will love it.
With dinner out of the way, you can just sit down and enjoy the movie:
“Gru, his adorable girls, and the mischievous Minions are back with a cast of unforgettable new characters in the blockbuster sequel to the worldwide phenomenon. Just as Gru has given up being super-bad to be a super-dad, the Anti-Villain League recruits him to track down a new criminal mastermind and save the world. Partnered with secret agent Lucy Wilde, Gru, along with the wildly unpredictable Minions, must figure out how to keep his cover while also keeping up with his duties as a father.”

Be sure to pick up your combo pack today and either save it for under the tree, or go ahead and bust it out for a fun family dinner and a movie night. I’ll let you decide. In the meantime, be sure to follow along on Facebook and Twitter to see what those hilarious little Minions are up to every day!

Dinner & A Movie with Marvel’s Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United

By Christy Leave a Comment

I really should tell you that I received the following Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack with bonus features to facilitate this family movie night from Click Communications and their client. As always, all of the photos, ideas, and opinions are entirely my own.
I try to make Wednesday nights fun nights around here. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because we made it half way through our busy week. Maybe to keep the babies pumped for the rest of the week. Or maybe because fun nights just mean I get to take a little time off and enjoy time with my family in the evening. So this week, fun night called for dinner and a movie. Bubby LOVES Super Heroes. In fact, I think he’s pretty much a super hero himself. Seriously, he’s always dressing up as one super hero or another.

So when I heard that Marvel’s Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United was available on DVD and Blu-ray on 12/3/14, I knew exactly which movie we’d be watching. And of course dinner had to fit the theme. Do I think that Hulk pizza looks just like the Hulk? Obviously not. It looks more like the Grinch but it was pretty hard to accomplish when Bubby won’t eat anything but cheese pizza. Do I think that’s the perfect Iron Man Mask pizza on the right? Pa-leeze, I’m not stupid. But the babies were thrilled with my creations. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to entertain them and make their food fun and fit the theme. Anyway, back to the point. I always have a point. I’m sure it’s my fault that sometimes you miss it.
The babies were excited for pizza and a movie and put on their best super hero faces. What? You can’t see the resemblance? I totally can. My little crazies are a lot like me I suppose.
Bubby cued the lights (literally, the kid told me to turn down the lights and get this show underway) and started the movie. And we were in for a real treat.
“Marvel makes cinematic history again with the most unexpected team-up in the universe! Joining forces for the first time ever, Hulk’s pulverizing brute strength and Tony Stark’s high-tech brainpower come together to face off against the ultimate enemy.

When ‘ZZzax’, a seemingly invincible, energy-devouring monster, threatens to destroy the planet, Marvel’s unlikeliest pairing of Avengers is mankind’s only hope. Alone, neither can defeat the awesome power of Zzzax. As a duo, they just might have a chance – if they can find a way to work together without smashing heads before time runs out!”
While the movie played, they sat and watched as we ate dinner and then we sat in the living room to finish watching to the end.

This movie is packed with action and the kids loved it, but I personally loved the lessons that they didn’t even realize they were soaking up. The importance of teamwork and good battling, and defeating, evil were strong throughout and these are the lessons I want my children to learn. Sometimes, most of the time, they listen to movies way better than they do to me.
If you’re looking for a movie that the whole family can enjoy, or just have a super hero lover on your holiday gift list this year, you should really pick up this Blu-ray and DVD Combo. It comes with digital copy so you can watch it anywhere, it’s loaded with lots of extra content, and you can get a free Iron Man MiniMate Figurine and digital comic with purchase. Plus you can try your hand at making super hero pizzas with your kids and that’s always fun. Believe me, you really need to do this one night.

Who are your kids’ favorite super heroes? Who are yours? What are your fabulous ideas for a family dinner and movie night? I’d love for you to share because I’m just not that creative and I need some ideas. If you’ve seen this movie, I’d love to know what you think. And if you haven’t…what are you waiting for?

Jake & The Never Land Pirates: Never Land Rescue Party

By Christy 4 Comments

I really should tell you that I received the following DVD with bonus features and a party kit to facilitate this family movie night from Click Communications and their client. As always, all of the photos, ideas, and opinions are entirely my own.
Bubby loves pirates and watching Jake & the Never Land Pirates on Disney Junior every weekday is a favorite pass time. I think we all know that I’m on a mission to make Bubby’s life as happy as it can possibly be so when I told him we were going to have a Jake & the Never Land Pirates dinner party to celebrate the release of the Never Land Rescue on DVD, he was stoked. But you see, I planned to keep it simple…like I always do. But when he declared “This will be the best party EVER!”, I had to step it up.
I was still able to keep it simple but thrill them beyond belief. All you need is a little Pinterest, a printer, the DVD of course, and some simple food supplies from your local retailer of choice.
No pirate party would be complete without a “Catch of the Day”, right? Frozen fish sticks and shrimp (although not the healthiest choice of foods, but party calories and carbs don’t count) set the stage for the perfect dinner with a movie party.
Of course desserts and sides are a simple choice when you stick with the theme. I mean, seriously, how could you catch the fish and shrimp without bait right? Gummy worms are a snack all little ones enjoy.
While you’re in the candy aisle, you might as well pick up some shark bait too (Swedish Fish) so your kids can be ready for that next big catch.
Don’t fuss with side dishes for this. Fish (Gold Fish Puffs) and chips make a great snack food for your party plus you can mix them in an airtight container to keep for later.

As with most big celebrations in my house, this dinner and a movie party came with a message. The party kit I received included a Grow a Tree: Pinon Pine kit. When it warms up a bit again, the babies and I will be planting their pine and I explained how this will help the planet. They’re pretty excited about this part.
Dessert? Another Pinterest-inspired idea that even I can handle. Cinnamon mini-donuts with printed “sails” placed with toothpicks in the donuts. And there ye go matey…Set Sail Delight. No mess, no fuss, just smiles.
When everything was plated and the babies were eating, I popped in our new full-length adventure DVD with 4 bonus episodes. So what’s the movie about you ask?

“The fate of Never Land hangs in the balance as magical treasures are mysteriously vanishing: Jake’s sword, Izzy’s pixie dust – even the directions on Cubby’s map! To save the day, Jake goes on the “Forever Quest” to restore power to the source of Never Land’s magic, the legendary Forever Tree. Join him on a thrilling expedition inside an enchanted cave, under the sea, and all the way to the top of Mount Destiny! Jakes’ Never Land Rescue will make you believe in the everlasting magic of true friendship!”

The night was a big success. We had fun foods for our dinner with a movie AND there were messages on the value of friendship, team work, and the environment weaved throughout. I say that’s a win for all of us!

Be sure to head out and get your copy of this DVD today. It’s sure to be a new family favorite. Throw in a fun themed-dinner and you’ll be hero for a night.
